Its official, Aucklanders are getting food scrap bins.

What does this mean?

Well, Auckland council is giving each household a new 23 litre bin for all their food scraps to go in which will then be collected each week.

Food items such as bread, egg shells, meat bones, fish bones, rice, pasta, coffee grounds, fruit skins, veggies and more can be thrown into your new food scrap bin. However, other rubbish items are not allowed.

See what you can and can’t throw in your food scrap bin here – Link

The system works by placing all your food scraps in the little kitchen caddy they provide, then once its full, you tie up the bag and place it into your 23-litre bin. Then you will need to place your scrap bin next to your council rubbish bin and they will come collect it for you. Leaving you with an empty bin to start again.

Why are they collecting our food scraps?

Auckland landfills are fill of about 100 thousand tonnes of old food scraps each year. These food scrap bins will hopefully decrease the food waste in landfills and instead go to providing energy and creating liquid fertilizer for the growth of more food for Auckland.

When do you receive your food scrap bin?

The bins are being introduced gradually to each Auckland area. Waitakere area is first to get the bins during March to April 2023 and North shore will be next, from April to June.

Then in order; Manukau, Auckland Central, Rodney and Franklin.

Click here to find your date.

On the 29th of April, The Ministry for the Environment released a proposal to transform the way we recycle in New Zealand.

It is reported that New Zealand only recycles 1/3 of the waste that is placed in council bin pickups and inorganic waste collections. Resulting in around 76% of material being send to landfill.

These statics show that New Zealand has a low recycling rate and the Ministry for the Environment is looking to change that.

In short form these are the three Proposals:

These include:

A container return scheme that encourages people to return their empty beverage containers for recycling.

Improvements to household kerbside recycling.

Separation of food scraps from general waste for all businesses

All three proposals look promising to reduce waste and increase recycling of materials across New Zealand.

For more information and the full proposals go to https://environment.govt.nz/news/transforming-recycling/

Have your say on the proposals on their website here by 11.59pm on Sunday 22 of May 2022.

Since 2020, the Auckland Council has been taking action to standardize rubbish bin collection services across Auckland.

In the past, certain areas in Auckland have not been able to have a recycling or inorganic rubbish pick up, however now the Auckland Council is taking steps to change that.

A new ten-year contract was signed in 2020, signing in new contractors to collect Auckland’s residential inorganic rubbish.

This means you may see different trucks collecting your council bin rubbish at a different time during your collection day.

However, your council bins still need to be out on the curb by 7 am on your council collection day.

The result of the Auckland Council introducing new rubbish collection contractors means that different areas of Auckland get different kerbside collectors, resulting in more organized routes and more solutions to customers if there is an issue.

From July 2020, North and West Auckland has had new contractor trucks picking up their rubbish. Then from late November 2020, Central, East and South Auckland residential rubbish collection suppliers changed.

The contractors who collect in each area are:

North Shore and West Auckland: Northern Environmental, a joint venture between Smart Environmental and Northland Waste

Auckland Central: Green Gorilla

Auckland East and South: Waste Management

AIMS will continue to collect rubbish and recycling in the inner city centre

Seeing this improvement is a great start for a zero-waste city and an overall better system.

Auckland Council will introduce food scrap collections in 2023 and all food scrap waste will be collected and picked up by electric trucks.

For more information about food scrap bins or your council bin collection call the Auckland Council on 093010101 or go to here.

Source: Auckland Council

We always jump at an opportunity to give back to our community and recently with the help of another company, we got to deliver and donate 6 new dishwashers and 6 new induction cooktops to a deserving organization.

Finding a suitable, affordable home can be hard in New Zealand. On top of this, finding a rental home with the necessary appliances is also challenging. That\’s why donating dishwashers and cooktops to an organization that helps kiwi\’s in need of a home is wonderful. They will install these appliances into their affordable homes or donate these to families in need.

Different Kiwi housing organizations help kiwi\’s find affordable rental homes all over Auckland.

That’s why we were thrilled to hear that we were dropping the 6 dishwashers and 6 stoves to be used in their homing program.

With the help of one of their great staff, we were able to unload all the stoves and dishwashers safely.

We are so happy to have been part of the delivery and drop off of this whiteware and love working with other companies and organizations to help give back to our community.

If you would like to help in anyway please go to our \”How can you help\”page.

This month, 0800 dump me (Williams Property Service) got the opportunity to drop off our food can donations to a great organization called Kiwi Harvest.

Kiwi Harvest works with a wide range of food businesses such as supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and hotels, to collect their extra good food that would have otherwise been sent to landfill, and kiwi harvest distributes it to over 242 charities across Auckland.

Kiwi Harvest has saved over 4811806 kilos of good food from going into landfill, all while delivering over 13748017 meals to people in need.

There mission is to prevent good food from going to waste and to help those in need throughout the community.

Yesterday, I got to see behind the scenes of the business and their passion for the job, when I dropped off the food donations from our staff and customers, to their warehouse.

When I arrived, I was met with a warm welcome by two team members, of which, one of them I had been corresponding with over email. They helped me unpack the food donations from the car and with social distancing and masks in place, they showed me the warehouse where they sorted and stored all the donated food.

We talked about the different businesses that donate food to them and what type of food they need that they are lacking in.

They informed me that basic food like flour, spaghetti and food cans were always needed and welcomed.

Kiwi Harvest were thrilled to receive our four bags of food and cans, and we are very happy that the food went to such a caring, passionate organization that makes a great difference in our community every day.

If you would like to donate some food cans to our food can drive during your pickup, let one of our friendly customer service team know over the phone during your quote.

If you would like to know more about Kiwi Harvest go to their website: https://kiwiharvest.org.nz/

Ugly skip bin blocking your beautiful scenery?

Many people thing the best way to remove and dispose of rubbish is to hire a skip bin. Well, there is an alternative, better solution out there! It’s called 0800 Dump Me.

Why use 0800 dump me instead of a skip bin, you ask?

We lift and remove your rubbish for you.

No need to lift a finger, we come and place all your rubbish onto the truck and take it away for you.

If you hire a skip bin, YOU have to lift and place ALL your rubbish into the skip bin yourself, which results in using your time and energy. So, save yourself time by getting 0800 DUMPME in to do all the work for you!

Your rubbish is removed in a day!

If you hire a skip bin, they sit on your property for days, even months before they are filled and collected!

However, we remove your rubbish in less than a day, we can sometimes get it done in less than 60 minutes, depending on the size of your rubbish pile.

No ugly skip bins!

Tired of seeing that ugly skip bin on your property, blocking your beautiful scenery. Skip bins sit on your property for months, blocking your scenery, ruining your grass, leaving a big batch of dead grass and dirt on your property after pick up. On top of this, if you have guests over, they will see the ugly skip bin or the massive batch of dirt on your front property.

0800 DUMPME leaves your property spotless, no dead grass, no dirt, no ugly skip bin hanging around, they park on your driveway and remove your rubbish all in one day.

No one can dump their rubbish with your rubbish.

Another problem you will have when hiring a skip bin, is the fact that people will dump their rubbish into your skip bin. You will end up with no room to put your rubbish and you will be paying for other people’s rubbish removal.

This will leave you frustrated and upset.

Why go through that stress when you could get 0800 DUMPME to remove your rubbish! You will only be paying for your own rubbish to be removed and strangers won’t have the opportunity to add to your pile of rubbish, as it will be picked up fast by our team.

0800 DUMP ME can remove your single items

With skip bins you are paying for a whole bin that you may not even fill up.

However, with 0800 DUMP ME we remove single items such as dishwashers, treadmills, BBQ, fridges, dryers, washing machines, you name it, we remove it.

This means you are only paying for the removal on the one item, not a whole skip bin of rubbish.

If you would like 0800 DUMP ME to come and lift and collect your pile of rubbish or single item, give us a call or email us.

We will reply to you as soon as possible and send you back an estimate quote!

If you have the time check out our most frequently asked questions!

Carpet Disposal

There are many reasons that homeowners replace their carpet. For our family, it was because the carpet got old from wear and tear. However, for others it might be because there was a leak or flood and the carpet got wet and destroyed from the water. Whatever the reason, you decided to replace your carpet and now that you have lifted your carpet and its sitting in a pile outside, you need carpet disposal. Our professionals will come in and dispose of your piles of uplifted carpet and underlay.

Whether its wet carpet, old carpet or super heavy carpet, we can dispose of it for you. Our team will come and take away your old carpet, leaving your place tidy and rubbish free.

Our team also disposes of carpet underlay, whether it’s wet or dry.

Sadly, we can’t accept carpet or underlay that is infected with bugs. If your carpet is in this condition, we suggest getting an exterminator in first and then we can come dispose of your carpet.

If you would like us to dispose of your carpet and underlay, call 0800 386 763 or email us at info@0800dumpme.co.nz for a quote.
